homemade uncrustables
Last updated: September 2023
A simple DIY lunchtime fav with several filling options!
HOMEMADE (and easier than you think) UNCRUSTABLES! These are great chilled, toasted, and are perfect to batch-prep and store in the freezer so future you spends less time prepping at-home or lunchbox school lunches! With some fun cutters & sealers, this recipe is sure to be one of the easiest you make (as well as a very loved recipe by your kids)!
INGREDIENTS
Two slices of sandwich bread
Fillings (PB&J, turkey & cheese, pizza, etc.)
Superseed boosters like hemp seeds, chia seeds, milled flax seeds!
DIRECTIONS
Lay out both pieces of sandwich bread on top of one another
Using sandwich cutter, cut the shape of the sandwich through both pieces of bread and set the crust aside (I like to save the crust before it gets any fillings on it to keep in fridge or freezer for homemade croutons)
Spread thin layer of fillings on top of bottom piece of bread, then cover with second piece of bread
Using the sealer part of the sandwich cutter, press hard to seal the sandwich. Option to seal from both sides to ensure it seals well!
Serve chilled (depending on sandwich) or warmed (for things like pizza uncrustables!)
FILLING IDEAS
Pizza: pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, Italian seasoning
Turkey and cheese: your favorite sliced turkey, cheese of choice, and some light mayo
Cream cheese & strawberry: cream cheese, thinly-sliced strawberries, honey (if over 1), and cinnamon
PB&J: peanut butter (or nut-free butter like Granola Butter or Sunflower Seed Butter) and jam!
NOTES
For the leftover crust, I like to make homemade croutons (for salads, snacking, soups) and French toast bites! Make right away or freeze bread and make in the future.

Any type of sandwich bread will work for this recipe. Some types of bread will seal easier than others -- to get a better seal, make sure the bread isn't cold and maybe warm up for 5-10 seconds in microwave at the beginning of sandwich assembly.
Homemade uncrustables freeze wonderfully! Make a batch of these ahead of time and freeze for up to 3 months to make future you happier with ready-to-go sandwiches.
