cinnamon apple fries
Last updated: September 2023
An easy and fun way to serve a nutritious apple to littles!
Cinnamon apple fries have become a staple healthy snack in our house! With up to 4 total ingredients, this snack is a simple way to serve traditional apple slices with some seasoning and a dip on the side. I’m also all for calling anything a “fry” because it just makes it sound cooler to my toddler so this recipe has been a win for us from the start! It’s a great way to sprinkle in some extra nutrition to snacks/meals and takes you little time to prepare.
INGREDIENTS
One apple (any will work)
Sprinkle of cinnamon
Sprinkle of superseed boosters
Peanut butter (or any nut/nut-free butter) for dipping!
DIRECTIONS
Peel & cut apples into thin, french fry like shapes
Sprinkle with cinnamon and superseed boosters
Serve with any nut butter or nut-free butter for dipping
NOTES
Any apple will work here! We like to use honeycrisp apples just because of their flavor and juiciness but use whichever kind you'd like.
You can certainly prep this recipe ahead of time and store in the fridge or keep in the lunchbox.
To keep sliced/cut apples from browning and fresh for longer, here’s what I do. I pour 1/2 cup of warm water per apple into a bowl along with 1/4 tsp of salt per small apple (for large apples, 1 cup of warm water and 1/2 tsp salt). Mix until the salt is dissolved, then add apple slices and let them sit for about10 minutes. Rinse with cold water afterwards, pat dry with a towel, and store in fridge for up to 4 days in an air-tight container.
The superseed boosters from Tiny Sprouts are a perfect add-in for this recipe! Hemp seeds, flax seeds, or chia seeds add some extra nutrition and can easily be sprinkled in. Code MYTODDLERSKITCHEN gets you 10% off your purchase on their site.
The Little Dippers from Bumkins are a great add to this recipe to include the dip for your apple fries! I use these so often for dips like nut butters, maple syrup, yogurt, hummus, etc. and for this recipe in particular, they make it so easy to dip the apple fries into some nut butter with less mess.
Instead of a nut butter to dip the apple fries in, you can go for a nut-free spread like the Oat Haus Granola Butter or some Sunflower Seed butter.
Any cinnamon will work here - I particularly like the Apple Cinnamon seasoning from Little Palates here. Simple yet great flavor that pairs so well with apples. Their other seasonings (Herb Garden and Baby-Q) are also great for other recipes for little ones, especially when starting solids.
